Asharangappa serves as an associate dean, senior lecturer and former dean of the Yale Law School's Jackson School of Global Affairs. Asha held the position of Special Agent for the New York Division FBI for several years and was an expert in counterintelligence. The work she did included assessing threats to security, conducting confidential investigations into suspected foreign agents and performing covert work. Asha's work with the FBI involved interviews, electronic surveillance and interrogating techniques, firearms and deadly force. Asha graduated with a degree in public and international affairs at Princeton. She was also awarded an Fulbright grant to study changes to the constitution in Bogota. Asha graduated with a law degree at Yale Law School. While at Yale, she was a Coker Fellow in Constitutional Law. She was admitted into the state Bar of New York (2003 and Connecticut 2003). Asha has published a number of op-eds which include in The New York Times The Wall Street Journal The Washington Post. Asha also works as a legal adviser to ABC News. Asha serves on the Just Security board of editors and also serves as a Council of Foreign Relations Member.

She was best known for having been a regular participant of NBC's sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live between 1996 and 2002.
